Baldwin Hills Ladera Ecology Urban Nature Center Project

The proposed Baldwin Hills Ladera Ecology Urban Nature Center Project is based on a 15,000 sq ft facility dedicated to community-based environmental education.  The facility will serve the Baldwin Hills, Winsor Hills, Ladera and Stocker Corridor communities. The estimated cost for this facility is $8 million dollars. This modular energy star Platinum LEED facility design will function completely off the grid to promote sustainable design consciousness with outdoor lab space for youth education programs. Outdoor water features will represent watersheds throughout Los Angeles County including gardens with urban habitat.

Other proposed program activities include community events and workshops for local youth programs. The exterior landscape design promotes drought tolerant plants, and utilizes a rainwater capture system to collect water for irrigation. An outdoor botanical garden will be used for overflow reception space. Other components within this open space facility include administrative spaces, conference center, operational volunteer store, classroom activity center space.
