Clean and Tree Community Beautification Program

CLEAN AND TREE

Clean & Tree Program

The Los Angeles urban landscape has fewer number of street trees than any other part of the city. We see this as an environmental justice issue. It is an opportunity to improve the quality of urban life by not just increasing the number of street trees, but also to decrease the amount of Green house gases into our atmosphere, reduce urban heat island effect due the the high degree of asphalt used in urban communities and improve urban air quality. The other benefit trees offer urban communities is beautification. Many areas within south Los Angeles lack opportunities of open space, urban blight, and crime. Studies have shown that where trees are planted, there is a reduction to crime. This program goals are to improve urban open space, increase urban tree canopy and create youth environmental stewards.
